Hiring a Residential Interior Designer

Hiring a residential interior design firm can be an exciting experience.   You are embarking on a journey to transform your living space into a beautiful and functional home that you can enjoy for years to come.  If this is new to you, you may not know where to start and what is expected of you!  Here are a few things you as the client can do to help ensure that the process is smooth, and the end result is exactly what you're looking for.

  1. Define your style: It's essential to have a clear idea of your style preferences before hiring an interior designer. Take the time to browse through magazines, websites, and social media platforms to gather inspiration and create a vision board. Sharing your style preferences with your designer will help them to understand your tastes and develop a design plan that fits your vision.

2. Determine your budget: Interior design projects can be expensive, and it's essential to establish a realistic budget before hiring an interior designer. Your budget will impact the design choices, materials, and overall project scope, so be honest about what you can afford. We always recommend having a contingency as well.  There are always surprises!

3. Clarify your goals: What do you want to achieve with your interior design project? Do you want to create a more functional space, improve the flow of your home, or simply refresh the decor? Be clear about your goals with your designer, as it will help them to prioritize your needs and make design choices that align with your objectives.

4. Trust the process: Remember that your designer is a professional with years of experience. Trust their expertise and allow them to guide you through the design process. Be open to suggestions and don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.

5. Communicate effectively: Communication is key when working with a design firm. Be sure to ask questions and provide feedback throughout the process. If you have concerns or questions about a specific aspect of the project, speak up and discuss it with your designer.

There are so many unknowns when you start down the road of renovating that we hope these tips will help to remove some of the questions around hiring a designer.  Remember, your designer wants to create a space that you'll love, so working together collaboratively is key.
